Soroptimist International of Greater Las Vegas is a non-profit organization that is part of the SIERRA NEVADA REGION
Our Federation has a regional structure, Sierra Nevada Region with clubs in Nevada and parts of California. Regional conferences and meetings are usually held in Reno NV!
SOROPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL
Soroptimist International, a not for profit organization, is an association of Soroptimist Federations. The first club was founded in 1921 in California. Soroptimist International is headquartered in Cambridge, England.
Soroptimist International is a global volunteer organization that improves the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment. More than 80,000 Soroptimist in 130 countries and territories join together to help make the world a better place for humankind. The organization is concerned with providing women and girls access to education, the most effective path to self-determination.
Soroptimist International Federations are:
Soroptimist International (SI) of the Americas: headquartered in Philadelphia, PA has 34,000 members in 20 countries and territories.
SI of Europe: Headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland has 35,000 members in 68 countries & territories.
SI Great Britain & Ireland: headquartered in Cheshire, England with a membership of 8,700 members in 29 countries and territories.
SI South West Pacific: Headquartered in Sydney Australia, with 2,500 members in 13 countries and territories.
Both SI Europe and Great Britain & Ireland have active clubs in Africa. Years of development planning have culminated with a strategic plan and budget to make a new Federation in Africa a reality on or about 2020.
UNITED NATIONS
Soroptimist International has consultative status with the Economic and Social Council at the United Nations and is a recognized authority on matters that women value most. Soroptimist representatives are active in the six major UN centers.
